May 2025- EXCA takes part in a series of meetings with EU BRITE on a review of the Ceramic BREF

The review of the Ceramic BREF is a crucial step in updating the environmental standards applicable to ceramic manufacturing under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). As the first BREF revised under the new IED 2.0 framework, it sets an important precedent for how future sectoral BREFs will address decarbonisation, circularity, and stricter emissions control. The process is led by the European Commission’s EU BRITE, with active input from Member States, industry representatives, and environmental NGOs.

This revision is particularly significant for energy-intensive ceramic sectors, as it may introduce tighter BAT-AELs for key pollutants (dust, NOx, HF, VOCs), new monitoring requirements, and potential provisions on energy efficiency.
