European Expanded Clay Association (EXCA) Elects New President and Vice-President

York, United Kingdom – 18 June 2026 – The members of the European Expanded Clay Association (EXCA) have elected Kim Rosenbom (Leca International) as President and Jürgen Tuffner (Liapor) as Vice-President during the EXCA General Assembly held in York, United Kingdom.

The General Assembly brought together representatives of Europe’s expanded clay producers to review the association’s activities, discuss strategic priorities, and exchange views on key challenges and opportunities facing the sector, including decarbonisation, sustainability, product standards, and the ongoing review of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The meeting was kindly hosted by Plasmor.

Kim Rosenbom succeeds Richard van Doesburg and will lead the association at a time when the construction sector is accelerating its transition towards climate neutrality and circularity.

“I am grateful for the support and trust of all EXCA member companies and honoured to take on the role of President,” said Kim Rosenbom. “Together, we will continue to build on EXCA’s work in promoting expanded clay and advancing our priorities on production processes, applications, standardisation, and sustainability. Expanded clay has an important role to play in shaping a more sustainable and resilient future for construction.”

Expanded clay is used across a wide range of applications, including housing, infrastructure, geotechnical engineering, and water management. Its lightweight, durable, and circular characteristics contribute to Europe’s environmental and climate objectives.

Under the leadership of the new President and Vice-President, EXCA will continue to focus on:

  • Supporting the decarbonisation of expanded clay production through renewable energy, energy efficiency, and technological innovation;
  • Promoting the sustainability benefits and life-cycle performance of expanded clay products;
  • Advancing European standards and technical specifications that support high-quality construction materials;
  • Engaging with EU policymakers on legislation affecting energy-intensive industries, including the EU ETS, industrial emissions, and the Construction Product Regulation;
  • Strengthening the recognition of expanded clay as a key material for sustainable and resilient construction.

Jürgen Tuffner, newly elected Vice-President, emphasized the importance of collaboration across the European industry to address common challenges and seize opportunities arising from the green transition.

Mara Caboara, Secretary General of EXCA, welcomed the election results and thanked the outgoing leadership for its commitment and contribution to the association.

“EXCA’s member companies are investing significantly in Europe, prioritising decarbonisation and innovation. With the support of our new leadership team, the association will continue to advocate for policies that enable the sector to contribute to Europe’s climate, housing, infrastructure, and resource-efficiency goals.”
