Problem / Solution

Ull / Kisa IL Football with close to 80 different teams in all ages needed a new soccer field, with better seats and more capacity. UKI Arena was completed in 2011, just about the same time as the athletics facility close by. The entire Ull / Kisa arena is built on soft organic soil. In wetlands water level fluctuate. Therefore, it is necessary to be able to store large amounts of water. Expanded clay fillings can hold much water which means that the water level can go up and down without flooding the soccer field.

Experience

The new UKI Arena is built on soft organic soil. We were worried about water on the artificial grass, but have not had any problems. This thanks to the solution with expanded clay, says field responsable Johan Jorstad In WOOL / Kisa IL. We’ve got a field that has been very good, says Johan Jorstad, also a member of the construction committee in the Norwegian Football Association. Close to the football field an athletics arena is located. The WOOL / Kisa IL, Jessheim athletics stadium, is also using an expanded clay solution, for draining the running track.

Why expanded clay?

Expanded clay provided drainage and a good solution to keep the field free from excess water. The field is designed with a pitch so that water runs off to the side, with a slightly elevated artificial grass. In addition to having good drainage properties, expanded clay will insulate well against frost in the ground. It provides longer seasons and less need for heating.
